General Recommendations
- Consult your child’s Band or Orchestra Teacher to help determine
an appropriate instrument selection and size.
- A quality instrument will provide the best opportunity for your child’s
success. However, in many cases a used instrument may be entirely adequate.
- Consider purchasing a music stand for home practice if one is not
already available. A simple folding stand is generally adequate.
- All students will benefit with the addition of private lessons. Your
Band or Orchestra Teacher will be able to provide a list or you can
contact KMFA for information.
- As with any course of study, individual effort on the part of the
student is essential. We encourage each student to set aside a period
of time every day for home practice.
Rental or Purchase Comparison Considerations
- What is the rental fee and what does the basic fee include?
.
- Is this a single year or multiple year agreement?
.
- If this is a rental or lease, how much of the rental fee is applied
to the purchase price and what is the purchase price of the instrument
when new?
.
- What is included with the instrument outfit?
(Case, mouthpiece, lubricant, bow, rosin, etc.)
.
- If my child loses interest in the instrument what options do I have
to change instruments or discontinue the rental/purchase program?
.
- How much is loss or damage insurance if not included in the basic
fee?
.
- What provisions are there for a loaner instrument? Is there an additional
charge for the loaner?
.
- How quickly are instruments repaired?
.
- What instrument brands do you rent or sell?
.
- What additional services do you provide? What is the cost of these
services?
